Programming Internship

 

 

Position Summary

Successful candidates will become an integral part of the Programming team and provide support to the Vice President of Artistic Planning and Artistic Administrator with the preparation and execution of all SPAC performances.  This individual will have the opportunity to work closely with conductors, soloists, dancers, orchestra members, and chamber musicians affiliated with the SPAC resident organizations (Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the New York City Ballet, and the Philadelphia Orchestra) and will assist with meeting the contractual obligations for every guest soloist and ensemble. The Programming Assistant will report directly to the VP of Artistic Planning/Artistic Administrator and coordinate with the team to provide transportation, hospitality, and any additional services required to all artists throughout SPAC’s season. This position requires hours outside a typical 9 to 5, including nights and weekends, to accommodate SPAC summer performances and special events.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Create and implement hospitality plans to manage guest artist and soloist requests.
  • Provide backstage support to all guest artists, soloists, and resident companies ensuring that all hospitality needs and requirements are met.
  • Collaborate and coordinate artist travel with programming team, and provide local ground transportation (i.e., airport and train transfers, hotel and venue transfers) for visiting artists.
  • Coordinate housing, travel arrangements, and complimentary ticket requests as specified in artist contracts.
  • Create artist itineraries and schedules, and disseminate stage plots, productions schedules, and invoices.

 

Qualifications

  • An avid interest in the arts and non-profit administration
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be comfortable driving company vehicle and transporting artists. Access to a vehicle is recommended but not required. There may be instances where the Programming Assistant is asked to utilize their personal vehicle for work related tasks. In any such instance, mileage is reimbursed.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Excellent verbal, written and organizational skills.
  • A positive personality and ability to work collaboratively with SPAC team.
  • Willingness to multitask and work under a deadline.
  • A basic understanding of the arts and knowledge of orchestral music and/or dance is preferred.

A successful candidate for this position will understand and respect the highly confidential nature of their position and will recognize the long hours needed to successfully complete the required workload. They are willing to work flexible hours, nights, and weekends.
