Position Summary

The SPAC EMT provides on-site medical support to guests, staff, and performers during events, helping maintain a safe and supportive environment across the venue. This role focuses on assessing medical situations, delivering timely and appropriate care, and responding calmly and professionally to both emergency and non-emergency incidents. SPAC EMTs contribute to a positive guest experience through quick response, sound judgment, and compassionate interaction in high-traffic, event-driven settings.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responding to emergency and non-emergency requests calmly, efficiently and promptly.
  • Administering basic life support to patients at the scene, in a pre-hospital/pre-transport setting in accordance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations and standards.
  • Assessing the nature and extent of injury or illness to establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed.
  • Document all medical incidents accurately and in accordance with venue and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct pre-event medical equipment inventory.
  • Cleaning, organizing, and restocking supplies to maintain a ready condition after each event.
  • Respond to requests for emergency and non-emergency medical care at events and other duties related to assisting event staff with general tasks that support the event.
  • Handling radio communications professionally and efficiently with careful regard to the divulgence of information respecting confidentiality requests always.
  • Work cooperatively with assisting agencies. This may include, but is not limited to, event staff, volunteers, security teams, EMS Transport agencies, event participants and spectators.
  • Drive medical cart on SPAC grounds to assist with medical situations and transport individuals to the SPAC on-site clinic (training provided as needed).
  • Uphold confidentiality and professionalism in all medical interactions.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

 

 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Maintain a thorough working knowledge of applicable current standards of care, including first aid, CPR, EMT‑level emergency medical procedures, and equipment functions and uses.
  • Work as a team player.
  • Conduct themselves in a courteous, helpful, dignified and professional manner always when dealing with patients, co-workers, supervisors, or the public.
  • Must maintain calm and composed in stressful, emotionally charged situations or chaotic situations.
  • Ability to assess medical situations quickly and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact compassionately with guests of all ages.
  • Strong situational awareness and ability to identify potential safety risks.

 

Qualifications

  • Assure that all certifications, licenses, and registrations are up to date.  This position operates and provides care at a NYS EMT-B level
  • The employee must possess and maintain at minimum a valid driver’s license, current NYS EMT certification (or higher), and CPR certification.
  • FEMA ICS training 100 and 700 is strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience providing emergency medical care in public, event, or high‑traffic environments preferred.

 

Schedule

  • As SPAC is a performing art venue with events in the daytime, evening and on weekends, employees must be available to work evenings (at times overnight shifts), holidays, and weekends during our Event Season from May to October.
  • Employees are expected to have reliable transportation to be able to work scheduled shifts. Shift times that will vary based on each scheduled event.
  • While employees may not be required to be available for all shifts, employees are expected to be available and work regularly throughout the season.

 

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk; use hands to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop or crouch and talk or hear.
  • The employee frequently is required to stand for prolonged periods and climb stairs or balance.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds with or without assistance when necessary.

 

Work Environment

  • The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions including rain, humidity, wind, heat and/or cold.
