Nutcracker Notes with Mozart for Munchkins

Sounds of the Season Concert Series

Saturday • Dec 19, 2026 • 11:00am

Arthur Zankel Music Center at Skidmore College

Enter the magical world of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker through an interactive, kid-friendly performance blending classical and jazz interpretations of the iconic score.

A featured ballerina will bring the music to life through expressive movement, dancing in close proximity to the audience so children can observe gesture, storytelling, and musicality up close. Live musicians will guide families through familiar melodies, encouraging gentle participation through singing, swaying, clapping, or simple guided movement. Interactive elements will be woven throughout, introducing children to musical concepts such as rhythm, tempo, and dynamics in ways that feel playful and accessible.

After the performance, families are invited to join an instrument exploration experience, where children can meet the musicians, observe instruments at close range, and ask questions — creating a bridge between performance and hands-on discovery.

More than a concert, Nutcracker Notes is a winter arts experience grounded in beauty, participation, and connection — supporting early arts exposure, social-emotional development, and family bonding in a supportive, joyful environment.

Arrive early for complimentary arts and crafts with our SPAC Education team, a Nutcracker-themed self-service photo station, and a picture book giveaway in the lobby while supplies last.

Nutcracker Notes is most enjoyed by kids ages 2-8, but offers seasonal fun for the whole family!
