“It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing!”
The Philadelphia Orchestra joins forces with Wynton Marsalis and Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO) for an unforgettable concert experience. Combining the quintessential sounds of the orchestra with the amazing rhythmic, heart-pulsing beats that only jazz can create, this thrilling and swingin’ performance marks the first time that The Philadelphia Orchestra and Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra have collaborated. The program will feature Swing Symphony, Marsalis’s third symphonic work, which he describes as a symphonic meditation on the evolution of swing.
Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO), comprising 15 of the finest jazz soloists and ensemble players today, has been the Jazz at Lincoln Center resident orchestra since 1988. Under Music Director, Grammy Award® and Pulitzer Prize winner Wynton Marsalis, Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra performs a vast repertoire, from rare historic compositions to Jazz at Lincoln Center-commissioned works, including compositions and arrangements by Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Fletcher Henderson, Thelonious Monk, Mary Lou Williams, Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Goodman, Charles Mingus, and many others.
