From classic fairy tales like Swan Lake and The Sleeping Beauty, story ballets have been captivating audiences for hundreds of years. Join New York City Ballet Principal Dancer and Host Maria Kowroski as we turn the page through some of the most beloved ballets in NYCB’s history and explore how stories and characters are depicted through the extraordinary world of dance. You’ll enjoy excerpts from across the company’s repertory, including Fancy Free, Firebird, Midsummer Night’s Dream, Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake, and hear insights directly from the artists in this engaging presentation for all ages.
Short Stories will feature an ensemble of fifteen New York City Ballet dancers in costume performing excerpts from the Company’s world-renowned repertory, with live musical accompaniment provided by pianists from NYCB. This new format represents an innovative and safe way to bring dance to the community, while adhering to carefully mapped out, socially-distanced seating and rigorous COVID protocols both in SPAC’s public spaces and backstage.
The presentation will be approximately 75 minutes long with no intermission and will explore the history and inner workings of New York City Ballet through the performance of excerpts and commentary from the artists.
