Libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa

Sung in Italian with English Supertitles

A young woman, bound by tradition and honor, supports herself as a geisha. Fate intervenes when she falls desperately in love with an American Naval Officer. Unaware that she is just a dalliance, she believes they are married and renounces her religion as he sails away, promising to return. But when the reckless officer comes back, ready to take their child and raise him with his American wife, she is left with an unspeakable choice.
