If your school is not currently enrolled in the Classical Kids Program, please contact the SPAC Education Team at

Our flagship in-school program, Classical Kidsreaches thousands of elementary and middle school students in more than 50 schools within the greater Capital Region. The program brings professional dancers and musicians into schools for an interactive assembly that introduces students to their art forms, teaches them about an upcoming performance at SPAC, and offers each student a free ticket to a selected performance during SPAC’s summer classical season. All students that complete the program receive a free Student Lawn Pass.

A Student Lawn Pass grants the student, and an accompanying adult, free lawn admission to all ballet and orchestra performances at SPAC until their projected year of graduation from High School (excluding the annual Ballet Gala fundraiser). Please check our classical season calendar for scheduled dates and performance times.

When using your pass, there is no need to visit the SPAC box office. Simply walk right up to an entry gate before a ballet or orchestra performance (specified above), show the gate attendants your pass, and they will admit you onto the SPAC grounds.

What steps do I need to take in order to earn a Student Lawn Pass?

In order to be eligible for a pass, students must participate in the Classical Kids assembly at their school and attend the designated summer performance at SPAC.

I participated in the in-school assembly and attended the summer performance at SPAC with my school. When and how do I receive my Student Lawn Pass?

Passes are created and distributed to schools during the fall season following the summer that you attended the SPAC performance. Your school teachers and/or administrators will submit a list of all first and last names, as well as their projected year of graduation, for every student that earned a pass. SPAC will create the passes using this information and send them directly to the schools for distribution. Students will then be able to use their passes for the first time to attend New York City Ballet and Philadelphia Orchestra performances for free during the following summer season at SPAC.

My school does not participate in the Classical Kids program. Can I still participate?

Unfortunately, your school needs to be a participant in the Classical Kids program for you to participate and earn a Student Lawn Pass. We encourage parents and students to spread the word to teachers and school administrators and ask them to contact our Director of Education to see if Classical Kids can be offered at their school.

I completed a permission slip and signed up for tickets to one of the SPAC performances. How do I receive my tickets for the performance?

Please contact your school’s Classical Kids administrator (usually your school’s Music Department or Administrative Offices) to learn how you will receive your performance tickets. Classical Kids performance tickets are distributed using a variety of methods, depending on the school that you attend. This information should also be located on the top portion of the permission slip form that you completed in order to sign up for the program.

I am a parent of a child participating in the Classical Kids program. Can I attend the SPAC performance with my child?

Yes! Family members are eligible to purchase discounted amphitheater tickets so that they can attend the SPAC performance and sit next to their child in the SPAC amphitheater. Family tickets must be ordered at the time that the student signs up to participate in the Classical Kids program. The Classical Kids permission slip, distributed to your student by the school, will have all pertinent information for ordering additional tickets.
