Saratoga Springs, NY (March 20, 2009) - Representatives from the Hyde Collection and Saratoga ArtsFest joined officials from Saratoga Performing Art Center to discuss new and stronger collaborative efforts between the organizations that will offer SPAC audiences more value and unique opportunities during the 2009 Season.  Also announced was a one-of-a-kind promotion offering a 10% discount on classical amphitheatre tickets to SPAC guests who present a membership card from any arts organization in the country.

"Like organizations everywhere, SPAC approached its 2009 Season with a commitment to do more and offer more, without increasing costs to our guests. It was an ambitious goal, but one that I am proud to say we've achieved through creative collaboration with both new and longtime partners. While building and strengthening partnerships has been at the core of SPAC's progress over the past few years, in this environment, they are absolutely essential," said Marcia J. White, SPAC's President and Executive Director.

Degas & Music

"Among the most exciting features of our upcoming season is our new partnership with the distinguished Hyde Collection which will be hosting a summer exhibit entitled Degas & Music that will display Degas works that capture the artist's fascination with music - a first for the art world. It's a partnership that links not only two organizations, but two art forms. The result is some very exciting programming that will highlight how music and art were intertwined for this great Impressionist artist," said White.

In collaboration with the Hyde Collection and its summer exhibit, Degas & Music, SPAC will present a special performance of The Philadelphia Orchestra on August 15 entitled An Evening with Degas. The program will feature orchestral compositions that are in some way connected to Degas' life and art, including works by Bizet, Chabrier, Debussy, Sarasate, Massenet, Saint-Saens and Offenbach. The performance will be accompanied by images of Degas' works projected on SPAC's oversized cinema screens.

Also part of the Hyde collaboration will be two chamber music programs entitled, Degas Among Friends. The first program on Friday, August 7 is a fundraiser with pre- and post-performance receptions within the Degas & Music exhibit area. The chamber program will last about 60 minutes and feature works by Debussy and Chausson. Gifted, young pianist Jean-Frédéric Neuberger perform as a soloist.

The Monday, August 10 program at the Spa Little Theatre is a full-length program featuring works by Mozart, Satie, Debussy and Chausson - composers who have an association with Degas, from inspirational to actual ownership of his art works. This program will also feature Jean-Frédéric Neuberger on piano.

Skidmore and Saratoga ArtsFest 2009

White also recognized Skidmore for its contributions to the development of SPAC's modern dance programming and highlighted SPAC's role in Saratoga ArtsFest 2009, June 11-14.

"One of our strongest partners over the years has been Skidmore College. This distinguished college, respected the world over for its academic excellence and leadership in the arts, is an important reason that Saratoga Springs has evolved into one of the most culturally rich communities in the northeast," said White.

"With valuable support from Skidmore's Office of the Dean of Special Programs, SPAC has been able to present world renowned modern dance companies for the past two years - the Martha Graham Dance Company in 2008 and this year, the Paul Taylor Dance Company," she added.

"Skidmore has also played a key role in the creation of Saratoga ArtsFest. This extraordinary weekend-long celebration of the arts in Saratoga, showcases the brilliance, energy and diversity of Saratoga's arts community," said White.

"We are proud of SPAC's contributions to the Festival this year, which include hosting the ArtsFest kick-off reception in the backstage of our Amphitheatre on June 10, and presenting the world renowned Paul Taylor Dance Company the next day. The performance will be a spectacular start to this incredible weekend of cultural events and exhibits," she said.

10% Discount on SPAC Amphitheatre Tickets for Arts Members

As part of SPAC's commitment to take a leadership role in promoting the arts, White announced that SPAC will offer a 10% discount off classical Amphitheatre tickets to anyone who presents a membership card from any arts organization in the US.

"In this economic environment, arts organizations across the country are struggling to survive. Recognizing that we need to support each other and the arts community as a whole, SPAC will offer a 10% discount on amphitheatre seating for classical performances, to members of any arts organization across the country. This offer is intended not only as an incentive, but as a ‘thank you' to those people who are supporting the arts in these difficult times," said White.

New York City Ballet and The Philadelphia Orchestra

"Our strongest partners in creating an exciting world-class season are our artistic companies, the New York City Ballet and The Philadelphia Orchestra. Recognizing the challenges presented by this economy, both Peter Martins and Charles Dutoit went above and beyond to create innovative, world-class programs capable of providing both the enrichment and inspiration that people are seeking, now more than ever," said White.

"Jointly we will provide some unique pre-performance educational programs for children as well as creative pre-events that will add value and quality to the SPAC experience in 2009. Rather than discourage us, these difficult times have motivated SPAC and all its partners to do more than ever to support and enhance ‘the magic of SPAC' in 2009," said White.
