Featuring an exploration of the life of artist Mary Cassatt
By David Garrard Lowe
Wednesday, October 14, 2009

Mary Cassatt was an American painter who studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. She moved to France and through her friendship with Degas, became part of the impressionist movement and exhibited with them in the late 1800's. Her work included domestic scenes with a special emphasis on the mother and child, particularly The Bath Series.
David Garrard Lowe is a well-known lecturer, cultural historian, and author. He has published many notable articles and his books include Stanford White's New York; Beaux Arts New York; Chicago Interiors; Lost Chicago; and Art Deco New York, published by Watson-Guptill. Mr. Lowe has lectured widely: New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Cooper-Hewitt Museum, the Smithsonian in Washington D.C., the Art Institute of Chicago, the San Diego Museum of Art, the Newport Preservation Society, the American Academy in Rome, on cruises in the Mediterranean, and crossing the Atlantic on Queen Mary 2.

Don't miss this opportunity to be a part of Mr. Lowe's third lecture at SPAC! Begin your day at 10:30 am at the Spa Little Theatre with a continental breakfast, followed by Mr. Lowe's performance. A 12:30 pm luncheon in the magnificent Hall of Springs, presented by the Glen Sanders Mansion, and boutique shopping will complete this special day.
